Stanley Pringle scored 19 points in the first and second quarters for GlobalPort, shooting 5-for-8 from three-point range. His backcourt partner, Terrence Romeo, also played big, putting up 14 points in that time.
Walker led his team with 16 markers while Lanete provided plenty of additional firepower as he knocked down four triples en route to 14 points for the Road Warriors.
Both teams had nine three-pointers by the halfway point but it was the Batang Pier with the advantage at the break, 59-51.
Taulava and Alas led an 11-4 NLEX charge to open the third as they trimmed GlobalPort’s lead to just a solitary point, 63-62, at 8:34 mark of the period.
They eventually took the lead after Alas made a quick move in transition and Walker hit a three-pointer as the Road Warriors overtook the Batang Pier, 71-70. Glenn Khobuntin attacked on the break for two more points, 73-70, as part of a 7-0 run for NLEX.
Then came a remarkable stretch where the teams traded huge shots from the perimeter.
Sunday Salvacion started it by knocking down a triple from the left corner to tie the game at 73-apiece. Walker responded with another three to put his team back in front but Romeo stepped up for a trey of his own to force another deadlock.
Walker, though, wasn’t out of ammunition just yet, pulling up for a long three-point attempt that dropped, 79-76.
NLEX then made another run late as Taulava made several nice plays, finding a cutting Alas in the paint for an easy layup before cleaning up the glass on another possession and completing a three-point play off the putback.
He even made a difficult fadeaway jumper as the Road Warriors closed the period on a 9-2 run and an 88-79 lead.
Taulava, after a scoreless first half, scored nine of his team’s 37 points in the third quarter.
Lanete then made his presence felt again, hitting his fifth three-pointer of the game to make it 96-82 with 9:37 remaining. He also finished on consecutive drives, the latter a three-point play against defense of Romeo.
His extra free throw made it a whopping 19-point lead, 104-85, after a 14-3 run.
But the Road Warriors offense suddenly sputtered as they were held scoreless for over three minutes, allowing the Batang Pier to chip away.
Walker, though, hit another long three from way behind the arc and Villanueva struck in transition to stretch the lead again, 109-90.
