The Mahindra Enforcer had a strong bounce back effort, routing the struggling Blackwater Elite, 97-88, in the 2016 Oppo PBA Governors’ Cup on Sunday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
Mahindra lost two consecutive games since their 4-0 start but showed just what they were capable of in an impressive showing, leading by as many as 16 points in the contest.
Import James White led the way with 23 points and 19 rebounds for Mahindra, which improved to 5-2. The Elite dropped down to 1-6.
Aldrech Ramos added 15 points and six rebounds while Paolo Taha chipped in with 13. Two other players – KG Canaleta and Mike Digregorio – scored eight each.
Mahindra grabbed a double-digit lead late in the second quarter after its player-coach, Sen. Manny Pacquiao, hit a late three-pointer, 46-36, although Carlo Lastimosa got it back for Blackwater in the dying seconds as the Enforcer entered the half leading, 46-39.
White scored 12 points in the second quarter and had 14 at the half.
Mahindra kept Blackwater at bay in the third, where they led by as many as 12 points after an 8-3 burst that saw the Enforcers locals taking the lead.
The Elite went on a 7-0 run in the fourth quarter to come to as close as six points, 76-70.
But the Enforcer responded with an 11-1 run with White scoring seven and Paolo Taha contributing the rest as they made it a 16-point game, 87-71, with 6:20 remaining.
Lastimosa led Blackwater with 17 points.
Pacquiao finished with four points in the ballgame.
