Barangay Ginebra (4-2) was led by import Justin Brownlee, who exploded for 38 points, 22 rebounds and five assists in the game. They saw a three-game winning streak snapped in this game.

San Miguel got off to a huge start thanks in large part to their three-point shooting. Reid, Cabagnot, Lassiter and Gary David, who started the game but exited early after suffering an injury in the first quarter, all bombed away from the outside as they took a lead of as high as 16 in the opening period before settling for a 28-14 lead after the opening period.

The Beermen led by 15, 51-36, at the half with Reid leading the way with nine points and Cabagnot and Tubid both chipping in with eight apiece.

They continued that in the third quarter with Lassiter knocking down three consecutive triples to push the lead past the 20-point mark. San Miguel led by as many as 24, 71-47, near the halfway mark of the third.

But that was when Ginebra began to come alive. Brownlee took over and guards LA Tenorio and Sol Mercado contributed with some big treys as they mounted a 19-2 run that brought them to as close as seven points before the end of the quarter.

San Miguel led, 78-68, at the end of the third but Ginebra won the quarter, 32-27.

That momentum made it a different ballgame in the fourth, especially after Japeth Aguilar and Brownlee hit triples to make it a four-point game, 82-78, with over seven minutes left in the game.

Brownlee eventually hit a stepback jumper over Reid to tie the game at 89-all with 30 seconds remaining on the clock.

The Kings then made a big defensive stop, forcing Lassiter to a bad look before Aguilar swatted a putback attempt from Fajardo but they were unable to create a shot of their own as the game went into an overtime.

SMB, though, battered Ginebra in the overtime as Cabagnot hit a three and Fajardo scored back-to-back baskets in the post as they made it a 7-0 start to the extra period, 96-89. Fajardo then scored on a second chance opportunity to make it nine unanswered, 98-89.

Tenorio finally gave Ginebra its first basket of the overtime as he hit a trey at the 1:43 mark and Mercado made up for some lost time by immediately following it with another triple, putting the Kings back to within three, 98-95.

Reid scored a putback off a Fajardo miss, 100-95, but Brownlee made a huge play, receiving an inbound pass from a few steps behind the three-point line and immediately throwing up a long attempt that went in, 100-98.

Tubid was fouled on the other end but could not get better than a split from the line, and Ginebra capitalized as Aguilar hit a triple with three seconds left to send the game to a second overtime.

But the tireless Reid proved steadies for SMB in the endgame as he scored six of the Beermen’s first eight points in the extra period to seal the win.

SAN MIGUEL 111 – Reid 26, Fajardo 17, Lassiter 17, Cabagnot 16, Tubid 14, Santos 9, Ross 6, David 6, Arana 0, Heruela 0, Reyes 0.
