The Alaska Aces needed to hold off a big fourth quarter rally from the NLEX Road Warriors but managed to get the job done, 89-81, as they moved into the No. 1 spot in the SMART BRO PBA Philippine Cup on Friday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

Sonny Thoss had 16 points and 10 rebounds while Rome Dela Rosa and Vic Manuel scored 11 points apiece. Calvin Abueva also had a strong showing with 10 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four blocks.

The Aces led by as much as 20 points in the third but saw that cut down to as few as four points in the last two minutes before surviving in the endgame.
