Ranidel De Ocampo led his team with 27 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two blocks as the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters cruised to a 103-94 victory against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in Game 5 of the 2015 PBA Commissioner's Cup on Friday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
With the win, the Texters are just one win away from the championship after taking a 3-2 series lead.
"Di pa tapos. Mabuti nanalo pero di pa tapos; apat ang kelangan para manalo," said TNT head coach Jong Uichico. "Itong Rain or Shine, palaging naglalaro yan e. Dapat ganon din attitude namin; we should play with a sense of urgency."
TNT import Wayne Chism also had 27 points, while Jayson Castro tallied 15. Larry Fonacier chipped in 12.
Rain or Shine had a hot start, scoring 29 points in the first. They Texters gamely engaged them in a shootout, tallying 27 after one.
Come the second, Jayson Castro led the charge to take the lead, as the Texters established a 10-point spread halfway into the period. Wayne Chism and Ryan Arana tried to counter at the other end, but Ivan Johnson and Ranidel De Ocampo had their answers. A De Ocampo conversion pushed the lead to 14 with 56 ticks left to go, while Rain or Shine failed to score in the dying seconds of the half.
After two, TNT already had three players in double figures, with Ivan Johnson and Ranidel De Ocampo tallying 12 each. Larry Fonacier also had 10 points after two periods.
The Texters didn't let up in the third, with their main guns hitting fifty percent or better from the field. The Texters led by as much as 20 points, before Beau Belga and Jervy cruz trimmed the deficit to 14 to end the period.
The Texters looked like they were going to cruise to victory after Ivan Johnson hit a three for a 12-point lead with 3:53 left in the game, but Gabe Norwood hit a three at the other end, while Chism and Lee hit charities to trim the lead to seven with 1:38 left, 99-92. Lee made it more interesting by converting with 1:09 remaining to trim the deficit further, 99-94, but Kevin Alas and Johnson made big shots at the other end to secure the win.
Without Jeff Chan, import Wayne Chism had to do much of the work for Rain or Shine. Chism had 25 points and 17 boards, while Paul Lee added 19. Ryan Arana was the only other Elasto Painter to register double figures with 10. - GMA News
